FIREFIGHTERS from Didcot were called to help with a fire which had spread across a field from a piece of farming equipment.

At around 11:30am today (August 24), two crews from Didcot, backed up by one crew from Newbury, were called to a report of a 50-tonne muck spreader on fire in a field above West Ilseley.

The fire had also spread to the field surrounding the machinery but this was quickly brought under control.

Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, extinguished the fire with two high pressure hose reels. Water had to be ferried from hydrants in the nearby village.

The incident was closed and handed back to the owner at about 1pm.
