The Oxford East constituency is one of the areas in the South East where workers get the best pay, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Only 9.3 per cent of jobs pay under the living wage in the area, which is currently set at £7.65 per hour for people outside London.

It is the third-best area in the South East of England excluding London, only behind Runnymede and Weybridge, and Guildford.

The worst area of Oxfordshire is Banbury, which sees 15.8 per cent of jobs not paying the living wage.

This is not illegal, as it is above the minimum wage of £6.31 per hour, but TUC’s regional secretary Megan Dobney said that having a living wage was “a vital way of tackling the growing problem of in-work poverty”.
