MORE than one hundred residents turned out for ‘I Love Botley’ day to share their ideas on how they want Botley’s West Way Shopping Centre to be improved.

Vale of White Horse District Council has budgeted for £50,000 worth of improvements and invited the community to help with suggestions for how to spend it. The drop-in event at Seacourt Hall also invited views on the long term future of the centre.

In December the council’s planning committee unanimously rejected a £100m redevelopment scheme put forward by Doric Properties and Mace.

Botley resident Mary Gill, of campaign group West Way Community Concern, said: “We were very pleased with the event, about 120 people turned up.

“It was an open event and we were asking people what ideas they wanted to be forward.

“We were very happy because it brought together the community. The priority is that the local community has a say, that’s my view. How that is activated I don’t know, that is up the developers.”

The developers that proposed the redevelopment have lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate.
