A FAMILY-OWNED Oxfordshire construction company has been named the UK’s Master Builder of the Year for the major renovation of a Victorian-era house in North Oxford.

Sporn Construction, based in Stratton Audley near Bicester, beat 70 other finalists to take out the Federation of Master Builders’ top award, as well as winning the Large Renovation Project of the Year category.

Sporn was awarded the prize for work on an 1890s home in Norham Road, owned by Tim and Jeanne Flynn, who nominated them.

Managing director Robin Sporn, 40, said: “It was a very difficult, challenging project.”

The year-long renovation involved gutting the entire house, and adding an extension.

The project was completed 18 months ago.

Mr Sporn, whose father started the firm, said: “To get the overall prize was fantastic.”
