Fitzharrys School fares well in tougher Ofsted report

THE headteacher of Fitzharrys School in Abingdon has praised the hard work of staff and pupils after achieving a satisfactory rating from Ofsted.
Inspectors trialling a new tougher system visited the secondary school, in Northcourt Road, on January 13 and 14.
In a report due to be published on Friday, inspectors rate the 844-pupil school’s teaching, attendance and behaviour as good.
Headteacher Susan Tranter said: “We’re extremely pleased, particularly as this is a more difficult Ofsted test, and we have seen many schools downgraded as a result.
“We’ve got a very hard working group of staff who are ambitious for our pupils. It also helps that the parents work closely together with the staff.”
Parent governor Duncan Chapell, of Brode Close, Abingdon, has two children at the school.
He said: “We’re very pleased with the verdict and it matched where we thought the school was in terms of what it does well and not so well.”
