THE legend of King Arthur is being given the pantomime treatment by Uffington Players for this year’s seasonal show.

Bold knights of old will be sharing the stage with a fire-breathing dragon, magic-duelling wizards and other surprises in the gag-filled version of the Arthurian story.

Taking the leading roles in the not-quite traditional panto are Anj Saunders and Charlotte Holley, as King Arthur and Lady Guinevere, with Duncan Saunders as Merlin, Christine Holley as the evil witch Morgana, and Jeremy Renwick as Dame Bertha Bloomer.

Written by Chris Liversidge and directed by James Broadbent, the show is being performed at the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington, from Thursday to Saturday, February 14 to 16, at 7.30pm.

The seven bold knights, Sir Prancelot, Sir Veillance, Sir Cumference, Sir Charge, Sir Spect, Sir Spission and Sir Geoffrey, are played by Beryl Packer, Thomas Renwick, Brian Wilkins, Charlotte Boaler, Abbie Boaler, Catherine Carrigan and James Broadbent.

The Players are hoping to play to packed audiences and that the show lives up to the praise lavished on their last production, a version of the BBC television wartime comedy ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Doors for the show open at 7pm and there is a fish-and-chip supper available on the Friday and Saturday nights. Tickets for the Thursday show are £9 and £6 concesssions, and, on Friday and Saturday, including the supper, £12.50 and £9.50 concessions, and available from Uffington Post Office on (01367) 820221.

The other members of the cast are: Muddles, Vince Ayres; Young Arthur/Herald, Elizabeth Owen-Smith; Herald, Yasmin Khamkhami; Isabella, Evie Butler; Mordred, Morgana’s son, Louis Butler; Block and Tackle, Jo Marshall and Sam Beynon; Gipsy Rose Lee, Janet Kirk; Araldite, Mordred’s stubborn horse, Jackson and Zindin; Puff, a cute young dragon, Helena Cryer; Gypsy Puff, Evie Butler; and, not forgeting the chorus, Evie Whittington, Isobel Whittington and Kerenza Renwick.
