LIVES are changed forever after a daytime TV host appears on the programme This Is Your Life.

Fading presenter Fay Finch finds herself unexpectedly reunited with an old face from her schooldays in Lesley Bruce’s comedy My Own Show.

The play, being brought to the stage by Dorchester Amateur Dramatics Society (DADS), explores the fickle nature of fame, the difficulties faced by older women in the media and the vagaries of friendship.

Already worried that her career is on the wane and with a private life that’s not up to much, Fay, played by Lucie Hall, is mortified to come face to face again with old classmate Caroline Pollard (Sue Kitson).

Pollard, otherwise known in those days as Bollards, was the obnoxious girl that everyone picked on at school.

But, learning of Caroline’s bereavement, Fay comes up with an idea that might just rescue the ratings of her television show, Frankly Fay.

However, the tables are later turned when Fay finds Bollards trying to take over her life and exploit her fame to her own ends.

With a number of TV plays and series under her belt, it’s a world that playwright Bruce is certainly well qualified to lift the lid on in this play, which was first performed in 2006 but just as relevant today as it was then.

DADS’ director Rosemary Mills told the Herald: “The cast has found this play to be most enjoyably well written.

“It is stimulating, witty and clever and great fun to perform.”

Completing the cast are Carol-Anne Tilley and Christine Jones, as Fay’s old school friends Jude and Gillian, and Mark Johnson, who plays Alan.

My Own Show is being performed at Dorchester village hall from Thursday, to Saturday, November 21 to 23.

Tickets are priced at £7 for the Thursday performance and £8 for the Friday and Saturday shows. They are available from tickets@dads.org.uk, on 01865 340792 and from Hair & Body Workshop, Dorchester, and Aisha Stores, Warborough.
