PERFORMERS are hoping for ‘reel’ success with their latest series of concerts featuring movie music.

From 007 James Bond to Disney’s The Little Princess and Back to the Future, Wantage Stage Musical Company reckons there should be something for everyone in their production, Songs from the Silver Screen, coming to a village hall near you from later this week.

Following on from their popular Night at the Musicals concert and their successful collaboration with Stagelights on Oh What a Lovely War earlier this year, WSMC is returning to the stage with this celebration of film scores.

But rather than just focusing on the most well-known songs from the highest grossing films, WSMC are taking a different approach by highlighting the fantastic range of music that features in films.

So whether you’re a fan of romantic movies, action films, comedy or cartoons, you should be entertained by some of your favourite numbers from the toe-tapping disco beats from Saturday Night Fever to the gentle melody of Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffanys, hit tunes from childhood Disney classics and medleys from the Bond films.

Other films featured include Footloose, Frozen, Prettty Woman and Lord of the Rings.

The group’s Sarah Fell and Pete Curtis have teamed up on the vocal and band arrangements respectively to create a stunning programme of songs.

Musical director Fell said: “Songs from the Silver Screen has been a really fun show to work on — great music can make a film, and we’ve been singing some of the best. The cast have a great energy, and it’s sure to leave the audience humming and tapping their feet all the way home!”

With WSMC continuing to grow, the group has been delighted to welcome some new voices to its ranks for this latest series of concerts.

The Songs from the Silver Screen concert will be visiting East Hagbourne Village Hall this Friday, November 14, Old Mill Hall, Grove, on Saturday, November 15, and Friday, November 21, and Stanford in the Vale village hall on Saturday, November 22. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets at £10 and £8 concessions are available from Bretts Chemist, Grove, Cutting Bar, Wantage, Post Office, East Hagbourne, Huddle Coffee Shop, Stanford in the Vale; or online at: www.WantageStageMusical.co.uk
