An amateur dramatic group were so successful with their rendition of Cole Porter musical Anything Goes in Wantage they are taking it all the way to Didcot.

Jigsaw Stage Productions will again be boarding the SS American to perform the “fabulous” musical at The Cornerstone Arts Centre on Saturday and Sunday night.

Described as a “screwball comedy caper”, Porter’s tale is set aboard a luxury liner where nightclub singer-cum-evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England.

Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is that Hope is engaged to the wealthy but stuffy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Billy enlists the help of his old friend Reno, as well as Moonface, a gangster posing as a priest, to help him win back the girl.

The group – which describes itself as a small friendly group that aims to bring quality stage productions to Wantage and the surrounding areas – has promised exhilarating tap numbers, toe-tapping tunes and a happy-ever-after story.

Cast member Chris Jones said: “We have just completed a highly successful run at The Beacon in Wantage playing to appreciative audiences each night.

“People said it was a ‘fantastic feel-good show’ with ‘superb singing and dancing’.”

The new success comes after Jigsaw delighted Didcot audiences last year with their production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The show will be performed at The Cornerstone at 7.45pm on Saturday at 6pm on Sunday.

Tickets are available from The Cornerstone on 01235 515144 priced at £13.50 or £12.50 concessions.
