Good music and beer will be brought together in Wallingford once again as an annual festival celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Wallingford Blues and Beer Festival will be held at the Regal Centre in St Martin Street on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13.

The headline act on the Friday night will be Dr Feelgood and, while none of the original members of this influential rhythm and blues band remain, the group still tours extensively and has retains a strong fanbase.

Also on the bill on the opening night will be Laurence Jones, who is described as a cross between Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy, and Matt Woosey, who recently launched his widely acclaimed Wildest Dreams album.

On the Saturday night, Chantel McGregor will be the headline act, with support from rising star Ben Poole and Swedish power blues band Armadillo Blues. The Saturday afternoon session will feature local blues group The Vincent White Band, acoustic act Mumbo-Jumbo and raw boogie blues guitarist Howlin’ Mat.

There will be a wide range of beers – including Oxfordshire ales Wychwood, Hook Norton and Loose Cannon, plus local ciders and wines as well as soft drinks and a barbecue.

The event will also be raising money for charity.

Over the course of its history, the festival has awarded nearly £45,000 to local organisations ranging from pre-schools to youth orchestras, rugby clubs and music for disabled children.

Last year, organisers donated £1,000 each to the Oxford branch of the National Orchestra for All and Oxfordshire Young Diabetics. Tickets cost £15 for each night (for adults only), £5 for the Saturday afternoon session, with accompanied children free, or £25 for a weekend pass.

They are available from bluesandbeer.co.uk or from KP Stationers or Wallingford Town Information Office, both in Market Place, and The Coachmakers Arms in St Mary’s Street.
