Ceramic cats, chickens and dragons were just some of the exhibits on show at a Wantage museum last week.

The Vale and Downland Museum, in Church Street, held a temporary exhibition of the work of Didcot-based artist Cookie Scottorn.

Featured works include porcelain clay sculptures and pots that can be used in the garden.

There were around 50 exhibits on display at the museum.

Ms Scottorn, from East Hagbourne, trained in ceramics at the West Surrey College of Art and Design before running a pottery business making decorated tableware.

Her work is inspired by tales of Aesop and Beowulf, as well as myths and legends from different civilisations around the world.

Curator Suzie Tilbury, who has worked at the museum since January, said: “Cookie has created some amazing work, and it is so lovely to have these exhibits here open to the public.

“She has made some pretty incredible dragons, and all sorts of garden-related ceramics. It’s so nice to have something different at the museum, as we have a lot of 2D artwork shown here.”

The exhibition closed on Friday, but there will be more for art lovers to enjoy at the museum.

Grove Art Group’s annual exhibition is now on display.

Tutored by artist and teacher, Tatiana Wise, the group was formed as an Oxfordshire County Council evening class back in 2009.

It started as a beginners’ group. However, as the class expanded and students’ work developed, an intermediate group opened.

Students work with a wide range of mediums and on a variety of subjects. They all learn from each other, by sharing their work as well as from the tutor’s knowledge and encouragement.

This has proved to be a winning formula and the group has gone from strength to strength.

The exhibition runs until July 18, Mondays-Saturdays 9.30am-4pm.
