JACKETS created by pupils at Our Lady’s Abingdon have gone on display at Blenheim Palace.

They were made by last year’s Year 10 pupils at the school to help them develop skills for their GCSE textile design and technology exam.

Now they have gone on display in the palace’s Long Library and can be viewed by anyone visiting the palace.

The jackets draw on the inspiration of Blenheim’s architecture, portraits and tapestries.

Pupils created them using recycled fabrics and learned new skills such as overdyeing, which can add new colour to a faded fabric. Each pupil started the project by creating a miniature version of a production line to replicate the reality of the industry.

They were then given a dedicated piece of the jacket to work on, such as sleeves, collar or main body.

One pupil, Holly Dunmore, used an image of the floor plan of Blenheim Palace itself to influence the lace on the jacket cuffs.

Palace education officer Antonia Keaney said: “The jackets are being greatly admired by the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, members of our staff and many of our thousands of visitors alike.”
