'Light on the Landscape' art exhibition, Vale and Downland Museum, Wantage, July 7-18

A WANTAGE artist will have her work on display in the town as part of a ‘Light on the Landscape’ exhibition.

Patsy Jones will exhibit her most creative paintings in the Vale and Downland Museum gallery from Tuesday, July 7, to Saturday, July 18.

Ms Jones is one of a host of artists to exhibit work at the museum in Church Street, Wantage.

She has studied both biology and geology with the Open University and since retirement has concentrated on archaeology through the Oxford Continuing Education classes.

These studies have fed back into her interest in landscape painting.

Both studies and art pose questions of interpreting the landscape and explaining it to others.

Not all her works are ancient monuments.

Some are a greater awareness of the underlying history of what may be seen from above as well as on the ground.

A number of Ms Jones’ pictures feature water, from seascape to puddles, looking at the way light is brought into the lower part of a composition. Recently, she has been working mainly in oils, with a few acrylics, and mixed media, and experimenting with some printing methods.

Ms Jones’ work can be seen daily from 10am to 4pm.
