BREAKALEG Productions’ next show at the Unicorn Theatre, Abingdon, will be in complete contrast to their autumn production of Oscar Wilde’s Lady Windermere’s Fan, writes Colin Palmer.
The Philip King farce I’ll Get My Man has been lined up by members of the Abingdon-based drama group for five performances at the Unicorn from Wednesday to Saturday, January 27 to 30.
Take a lonely parson seeking to escape from his domineering sister, a television star pursued by a rock chick, a husband-hunting widow and an irate bishop, mix them together and the consequences are hilarious in the 1966 play by playwright and actor King, best known as the author of the farce See How They Run.
The group is hoping the show will be as popular as their production of Lady Windermere’s Fan which drew capacity audiences to the Unicorn in September. Breakaleg’s production of I’ll Get My Man is directed by Deidre Jones.
Deborah Williams dons a 1960s mini skirt to play the loud and brash Pixie Potter (as seen on the play’s posters and website) in complete contrast to her last role for the group as the demure Lady Windermere. Julie Kedward, who played the Duchess of Berwick in Lady Windermere’s Fan, also has quite a different character this time as Josephine de Brissac.
The remainder of the cast is as follows: Rev Arthur Humphrey is played by Mike Varnom; Mrs Mollie Carter by Mia Scott-Ruddock; Miss Harriet Humphrey by Jenny Shepherd; Mrs Winifred Barrington-Locke by Oenone Grant; Peter Graham by Mark Wilkin; The Bishop of Lax by Mike Davies and the Press photographer by former Herald Series journalist Peter Bradley.
Tickets are £6 each for the Wednesday and Thursday performances at 7.30pm and the Saturday matinee at 2.30pm and £8 for the Friday and Saturday shows at 7.30pm. They are available from The Book Store, Bury Street precinct, Abingdon, or by post by sending cheque (made out to BreakaLeg Productions) and stamped addressed envelope to BreakaLeg Box Office, 40 Castle St, Steventon, OX13 6SR. Inquiries can be made on 01235 821 351 or by logging on to the website at info@BreakaLegProductions.co.uk
