Aladdin; Didcot Phoenix Drama Group, Didcot Civic Hall, Jan 28-30.

IT’S time to flex those chuckle muscles again as members of Didcot Phoenix Drama Group stage their annual pantomime.

This year, they are inviting us all to join them on a non-stop, hilarious caper across the Orient in Aladdin, giving everyone the chance to join in the traditional cries of ‘Oh, yes, it is’ and ‘He’s behind you’.

Their version of Aladdin, written by Stuart Ardern and jointly directed by Mark Padbury and Ruby Norton, offers the chance to boo and hiss at the evil Abanaza, fall in love with beautiful Princess Martini, laugh your socks off at the swanky laundress Widow Twanky, and cheer our lovable yet lazy, good-for-nothing hero, Aladdin.

With all the usual panto paraphernalia of magic lamps, flying carpets, caves, rings, Genies and the ‘sweet’ scent of yesterday’s dirty washing, the show promises to be a laugh a minute from start to finish.

The title role of Aladdin is taken by Kate Norman, with Vaughn Lawfull as Widow Twanky, Martin Redhead as Abanaza, Amy Clinton as Princess Martini, Joe Clinton as the Genie of the Lamp, and Jim Norman as the Genie of the Ring.

Didcot Phoenix are putting on five performances of the show at Didcot Civic Hall, Britwell Road, at 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday, January 28 and 29, and at 10.30am, 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, January 30. Tickets, priced at £6 and £4 (concessions), are available from the One Stop Shop at the hall and Newbury Building Society, in Broadway, or by calling 07919 887980. There will be an evening bar.
