Scores of postmen and women in Oxford are set to discuss possible strike action in a row over workload.
Postal workers said they were concerned about increases to the area of their delivery rounds in the city - and warned mail was being delivered later as a result.
Dozens of postal delivery workers are expected to attend a meeting, organised by the Communication Workers' Union (CWU), on Sunday to discuss whether to ballot for industrial action.
If they decide to hold a ballot - and workers vote in favour of a strike - up to 300 postmen and women across the city could end up walking out.
CWU area delivery representative Kevin Duffy said Royal Mail implemented the changes to workers' rounds two weeks ago.
Mr Duffy said all areas of Oxford were affected and some letters were being delivered later than the national deadline of 2pm for urban areas, sometimes as late as 3pm.
He said: "Basically they are making the postmen take on extra work with no agreement with the union and the quality to the customer because of that is getting worse."
Mr Duffy, who has been a postman in Headington for 28 years, said they were being given extra streets to deliver to after they finished their regular rounds.
Mr Duffy said other branches of the CWU were considering holding meetings to discuss the same issues in towns such as Abingdon and Bicester.
He said: "It's bad, but it's going to get worse. It's at breaking point at the moment."
Last June, 2,000 county postal workers went on strike as part of a national dispute. A month later the suspension of two workers at Cowley sparked a six-day wildcat strike.
And last month, Royal Mail staff warned they could strike again in a bid to prevent the Oxford Mail Centre closing when the company shifts its operation to Swindon, expected to be completed next summer.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Changing duties to match workloads during the summer period was included in the national agreement with the CWU following last year's strikes. This will not prevent Royal Mail from meeting our delivery specifications."
Sunday's meeting is due to be held at Cowley Workers' Club, in Between Towns Road, at 10.30am.

I dont know what they are complaniong about its good wages considering they are mostly all illiterate im surpirsed "clients " get their mail at all cos 90% of the posties cant read anyway...
Truly shocking that they are thinking of Striking again if i dont get my mail on time then there will be letter winging its way to thier head office.. selfish and greedy and lazy spring to mind !!!

Here we go again - what will these t w a t s complain about next. I guess they are due for another strike, there hasn't been one for about a week. Just do your jobs you lazy, moaning idiots, or if you don't want to then give your jobs to people who WOULD be willing to do them properly without complaining about every little thing. The postal service here is crap anyway, so you can't make it much worse.

The Oxford sorting office is a joke....they're always on strike and complaining about this, that or the other. when they provide a good service people will start paying attention, until then they wont get any sympathy at all. roll on an alternatiove......if any other company had got away with missing targets, poor service and thefts like they have they'd be shut down!!

WOW!! What a suprise. Who cares anyway. As long as they dont get paid and hopefully the suffer financially then let them strike. Why dont they think about their families before they go depriving them further on yet another ridiculous strike.

Good for them. I'm pleased that not all workers just roll over and say 'Yes Sir' when their bosses confuse increasing workload with increasing efficiency. The postal service is dreadful and just giving posties more to do is going to make it worse. Managers need to be more creative and get the staff on side.

Remember the local papers here,best part of a year ago,with the story about a local postie who couldnt deliver the mail properly cos he couldnt read English,but.....it was against his Human Rights to sack him !.
Only in the last 3 years have i EVER had mail go missing...now its all the time.

When you stop losing my mail and stop taking a month to deliver a 1st class letter, I will have maybe an ounce of sympathy.
You get a bike to do the rounds on - get on it and stop complaining.
