TWO road crashes in quick succession just metres away from each other caused havoc near Abingdon today.

A 42-year-old woman was hurt when her car left the A34 near the Milton Interchange.

Minutes later, a short distance away, a four-car crash occurred on the same stretch of road.

The woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital having reported pains in her arm.

However according to the South Central Ambulance Service nobody was hurt in the multi-car pile-up.

The incidents occurred near the Milton Interchange, which has caused problems for drivers over the last 24 hours due to a multiple traffic light failure.

The A34 northbound was closed for a short time after the accident but one lane is now reopen. The northbound slip road remains shut.

Police have warned of treacherous conditions for motorists today as freezing temperatures cloak the area in fog and have caused ice to form on the roads.

The head of road policing for Thames Valley, Assistant Superintendent Henry Parsons, has warned drivers to avoid the area due to the conditions.
