BOSSES and workers at Formula 1 racing team Williams are celebrating after scooping a top business award.

The organisation, which employs more than 500 people at its Grove headquarters, claimed the Business of the Year title at the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) Business Excellence Awards.

It follows a successful year for Williams which saw driver Pastor Maldonado win the Spanish Grand Prix, the team’s first victory in eight years.

Williams Advanced Engineering, the division that adapts racing innovations for commercial uses, has seen its technologies introduced into a range of fields.

Successes include a partnership with the Go-Ahead Group to introduce hybrid technology on London buses and success at the Le Mans 24 Hours race with the winning Audi using a Williams hybrid power flywheel.

MIA chief executive Chris Aylettia said: “Williams F1’s race heritage is beyond question, but things have evolved over the past few years.”
