TWO people were left with serious injuries after two lorries collided on the A34.

The northbound carriageway of the road was closed for several hours yesterday after the collision near the Milton Interchange.

One of the lorries collided with the rear of the other, shedding beer barrels from its trailer, although the cause of the crash was not clear last night.

The two male drivers were taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital with injuries described as ‘serious but not life-threatening’.

Police spokesman James Williams said: “The incident, involving two lorries, took place at about 11.44am. One of the vehicles was carrying beer, which has now been shed across both lanes.”

One driver had pelvis and leg injuries and the other was suffering from neck injuries.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman James Keating-Wilkes said: “The call came in at 11.48am and we sent the Thames Valley and Chiltern air ambulance, two officers and, two double-manned ambulances. Two patients were taken to the JR by land, one with a head injury and one who was described as quite poorly, which means his injuries were serious.”

The road reopened by 6.30pm.
