Five flood alerts remain in place on River Thames

River levels remain high in Oxfordshire today with a number of flood alerts still in place on the Thames.

Five flood alerts are still in place in the area, which highlight that flooding of roads and low-lying land is possible and people should be prepared.

The first alert is for the River Thames and its tributaries from Days Lock at Little Wittenham to Pangbourne.

Also on alert is the River Thames for the Abingdon area, between Abingdon and Little Wittenham.

An alert is in force on the River Thames and tributaries from Buscot Wick down to Kings Lock.

The River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area remain on alert, including areas between Wolvercote down to Radley and Jericho.

The last alert is on the River Cherwell from Lower Heyford down to and including Oxford.

Spokesman for the Environment Agency Michelle Southby said: “The rivers are fairly stable but they are high with all the rain we have had.

“It hasn’t been generally as bad as we were anticipating earlier this week - we haven’t reached warning levels.

“The Thames is a slow old beast to react but it seems to be okay at the moment.”
