WANTAGE MP Ed Vaizey thought he’d left the monsters behind in Westminster when he popped into Faringdon Library for storytime.

But the Conservative MP wasn’t out of the woods and had to team up with popular character The Gruffalo to entertain young visitors.

Communications Minister Mr Vaizey read the book to a rapt audience at the library yesterday, and said he had thoroughly enjoyed himself.

He said: “Every parent quickly learns that anything by Julia Donaldson is a sure fire hit, and The Gruffalo is a classic.

“I loved reading it to the kids, and getting the chance to show how important and successful libraries remain.”

Ed was there to for national libraries day. Such a shame that Faringdon Library is one of those that are having the low paid library managers and assistants cut to protect a bloated back office, while the minister with responsibility for libraries (that would be Ed again) does nothing.
