Legendary Emmy and BAFTA winning composer and arranger John Altman plays a rare east London gig on Tuesday (February 26).


Saxophonist Mr Altman will be accompanied by his big band for the show, which takes place at the Heathcote Arms in Grove Green Road, Leytonstone, from 8.30pm.
 

Entry is £8 on the door.
 

Loughton Folk Club has a charity night in aid of Action for M.E. This Thursday (February 21).


It is headlined by Tony Kendall, who has written and collected over 1,000 Essex songs.
 

Among the many other acts playing are Nigel Moorcroft & Gordon Jones, Les Elvin, Al Neville, Foxen! and John Clarke.
 

Entrance is £3 and doors are at 8pm.


It takes place at the Loughton Club in Station Road.


Walthamstow Folk Club hosts special guest Dave Swarbrick on Sunday (February 24).


They describe him as “the single most important figure in folk fiddle playing in the world ever”.


A leading figure in folk music, he's played in the Ian Cambell Folk Group, Fairport Convention and performed with Martin Carthy as a duo.
 

Admission is £10 or £9 for concessions.
 

It's at Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street.

Classic 60s and 70s covers band Rebound headline the Redbridge Green Fair Live Music Club this Friday (February 22).


Support comes from swing singer Dave Dean and energetic teen rock band Well Equipped.


It takes place at Ilford Sports Club in Cricklefield Stadium in Ilford High Road.
 

Doors are at 8pm and it costs £4, or £2 for under 18s.


The Old Hall Tavern in Chingford hosts an Open Mic night this Thursday (February 21).


Entry to the venue, in Hall Lane, is free and the evening starts at 8.30pm.
PA and amps provided, with all abilities and styles welcome.
 

Stiv Cantarelli & The Silent Strangers perform at the Birkbeck Tavern in Leytonstone on Thursday (February 21).
 

They play garage-blues-folk and come all the way from Florence in Italy.


Support comes from 12-string guitar maestro Simon Onions.


Music begins from 8pm ish.


On Saturday (February 23) the same venue hosts The Cajun Dawgs, with support from Nashville singer-songwriter Andrew Combs.
 

Tunes will start around 8pm.


Entry to both Birkbeck gigs is free but donations to the acts encouraged.
