Grove school praised for making learning fun

A School has bumped itself up a grade in its latest Ofsted report thanks to “making learning fun”.

Inspectors who visited Grove CE Primary in January and spoke to staff and pupils, rated the school “Good” – the second highest grade.

The report said “pupils enjoy school and really enjoy learning” and noted that improvement in teaching since the previous inspection was evident throughout the school, with elements of “outstanding practice”.

Headteacher Wendy Foster said: “This is a massive reward for us, and comes from sheer hard work.

“Since our last report, we have taken everything to bits and put it back together again.

“Everything comes down to making reading, writing and maths fun for children.”

The school holds regular fun events, like an Egyptian day and pyjama day. It has links with schools abroad to help children learn more about other cultures, and teaches children about gardening.

The church school also puts a heavy emphasis on including children’s families, inviting parents to contribute to improvements.

Mrs Foster took over five years ago, following a period where the school had four heads in two years.

Mrs Foster said: “We have greatly changed and developed. This new rating is motivational, and good for the school as we move forward.

“I am very proud of the whole school team who have worked extremely hard to raise the quality of education.”
