THIS could be the baby of the year 2013.

All this week and next, proud parents are invited to photo shoots in a quest to find Oxfordshire’s cutest baby or toddler.

Fraser Portraits has set up base in Oxford’s Westgate shopping centre, and next week will be in Matalan in Cowley.

The prize for the parents of the best baby is a holiday worth up to £1,000, a canvas print of their little darling, and a trophy courtesy of Fraser.

Sabina Walker, 26, just happened to be passing with four-and-a-half month old Maxwell yesterday.

“I just came to do a bit of shopping,” she said. “But of course he’ll win – he looks like me!”

Every entrant will be featured in a special supplement in the Oxford Mail on Tuesday, April 23, and readers will be able to vote for their favourite.

Photographers will be at the Westgate Centre from 10am-4pm every day this week. They will then be at Matalan in the John Allen Centre, Cowley, from Monday, March 18 to Saturday, March 23, from 10am- 4pm.

Worse than Miss World, because these babies don't get a choice. What exactly makes a baby beautiful? Could it be a baby who has survived despite the odds being stacked against him, the little one with a disfiguring birth-mark who will have to grow a think skin to survive the bullying that awaits, the child who will have to endure painful surgery for a facial deformity? These competitions are outdated and inappropriate; I'm amazed anyone would be shallow enough to either enter their baby into it or vote.
