A HUGE cannabis farm was found in a house next door to a doctor’s surgery.

Officers raided the home in Chorley New Road, Horwich, after a tip-off.

Two people living at the address were arrested and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Police obtained a warrant and searched the house, next to Bolton Community Practice Market Surgery Branch, on Friday.

Neighbours said that they were there for several hours while the “sophisticated” cannabis farm was taken down piece by piece.

Officers found a full cannabis farm with lighting and fans, as well as 148 plants and a crop which was drying.

The street value of the find is not yet known, although it is expected to be a five-figure sum. Sgt John Nicol, of Bolton West neighbourhood policing team, said: “It was a full farm set-up and there were a large number of plants growing.

“Most were nearly fully grown, nearly ready for cropping and a large amount was drying out too. The street value will be a substantial amount, so this is a good find.” A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “There were people living at the house, but I did not know them. They were taken away by police.

“The officers were here from about 3pm to 6.30pm. I saw them bring out 14 bags of plants.

“I was really surprised as this is a nice road and it’s next to the doctors.

“It just shows you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.”

Police urge residents to report any signs of cannabis farms which includes smells, constantly closed curtains, condensed windows and people coming and going at unusual times.

They also ask that landlords make regular property visits.

Anyone who has information should contact police on 101.
