TRAIN passengers hoping to get away for the Easter break are facing disruption and delays due to work at Reading.

Network Rail shut the main line route through the town from Thursday night until early Tuesday while work is carried out on a station revamp.

First Great Western trains between Oxford and London Paddington are being diverted to operate via the Chiltern Line by reversing at Banbury, with extended journey times.

Cotswold Line stations in west Oxfordshire will get a shuttle service between Didcot Parkway and Worcester, with passengers travelling to or from London having to change at Oxford.

Buses will replace trains east of Didcot to Reading and stations in the Thames Valley towards London.

First Great Western spokesman James Davis said: “Everything is planned and going ahead so there are diversions in place.

“If you go to the First Great Western website, follow our Twitter feed, or check with National Rail, they will tell you about any changes.”

From Tuesday until Saturday, April 6, trains will be able to run through Reading on a special timetable.
