OXFORD City Council has repaired 2,300 potholes inside Oxford since January 1.

Unlike counterparts at the county council, the city team does keep a record of which repairs are temporary and which are permanent.

The weather and location of the pothole will determine which kind of repair is carried out.

The city council is responsible for almost every residential street inside Oxford, with the county council mandate for repairs covering the main roads.

However, there is no exact rule on which streets it is accountable for, and a spokesman for the county council, Owen Morton, said officers from both councils work together identifying repairs to be carried out.

Oxford City Council said it does not set out to fix potholes temporarily and will always look to make permanent repairs.

It said about 10 per cent of its repairs were temporary.

It will not fix permanently if the location could require additional roadworks or if the defect is in a location that it will be resurfaced soon.
