3:00pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
SHE’S lived through two world wars and seen 20 Prime Ministers enter and leave Downing Street.
Mavis Fearnley celebrated her 105th birthday in style on Saturday with a party at The Meadows care home, Britwell Road, Didcot.
Born on September 7, 1908, in Checkheaton, Yorkshire, she grew up in Montgomeryshire, Wales.
After mastering flower painting, violin and piano at London’s Royal Academy of Arts, she was a nurse in London during the war.
In 1943, she had a son, Stephen, and the family were later evacuated to Wolverhampton.
After the war Miss Fearnley, who never married, worked as a nurse in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
She puts her longevity down being a vegetarian.
She has two granddaughters, and a 10-month-old great-grandson.
