LET’S be honest – school dinners don’t have a great reputation.
But staff at Wantage Church of England Primary School are doing their best to tackle the problem by bringing in catering staff from Wantage’s King Alfred’s Academy.
King Alfred’s Catering began providing school meals for the primary school this term.
Leading the venture is head cook Sharon Ellery and her assistant Susan Fowler, who are highly trained and have worked in King Alfred’s main kitchens and partner primary schools.
Sharon said: “All meals are cooked and prepared on site using fresh ingredients and locally sourced vegetables.
“The kitchen staff are more than happy to adapt and speak to parents and guardians about dietary requirements.”
The lunch service now has four choices: hot main meal, second choice main meal, vegetarian meal or a brunch bag. Every child has an option of a hot pudding, yogurt, fresh fruit or cheese and crackers.
