One in seven children in care went missing
9:30am Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
NEARLY one in seven children in Oxfordshire County Council’s care have gone missing in the past year, it has been reported over the weekend.
The news comes after a gang of seven paedophiles were jailed for a total of 95 years as part of Operation Bullfinch – which led to the county council apologising for failing to stop the abuse.
Figures obtained by the Daily Star under the Freedom of Information Act show that as of March 31, 2012, there were 450 children looked after by the authority.
Of these, it said that between April 1, 2012, and March 31 this year, the number of children reported missing was 67 – 15 per cent – though they were all later found.
In a statement in the Daily Star, the county council is reported as saying there is “nothing to suggest Oxfordshire’s statistics are dissimilar to those in other parts of the country”.
Council leader Ian Hudspeth could not be reached for comment last night.
