CELEBRITIES took to a golf course to score a hole in one for an Oxfordshire hospice.

Organised by Dalziel and Pascoe star Warren Clarke, and Dennis Waterman, known for starring in The Sweeney, Minder and New Tricks, the recent golf event raised more than £20,000 for Oxford hospices Helen & Douglas House.

The 45 players, in teams of three, included television stars who played a round of golf at Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa, was actor Will Mellor, who played Gaz in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Kevin Whatley, who played Robert “Robbie” Lewis in Inspector Morse, and Willie Thorne.

Golfers also stayed for dinner and helped boost the funds with an auction, which was run by former professional snooker player Willie Thorne.

Mr Clarke said: “I have seen first hand the wonderful work Helen & Douglas House do to help support families who have children and young adults with life-shortening conditions in Bucks and the surrounding areas and I am glad we have been able to help in some way.”

Mr Waterman added: “It was a wonderful day which everyone really enjoyed and I am delighted that we far exceeded the fundraising target we set.

“The money will help many local families who have come to depend on the vital support this wonderful charity provides.”

Janet Carruzzo, community fundraiser from Helen & Douglas House said the cash raised from the event last month would help provide vital services including respite breaks, end of life care and post- bereavement support for local families.

She said: “Without events like these and other voluntary donations, we would not be able to provide the vital support our families need.”
