PLANS for a multi-storey car park and a seven-floor hotel by Didcot’s railway station have been revealed.

The plan also includes a restaurant, nursery, offices, houses, flats, and a public square opposite Didcot Parkway.

A 300-space multi-storey car park is planned for land by Station Road next to Cow Lane, a site currently occupied by Station Flooring floor company and the Railway Staff Association Club.

And 18 houses, up to 127 flats, a seven-storey hotel, offices and restaurant are planned for land between Station Road, Haydon Road, and Lydalls Road.

Haydon Road resident Christine Loder, 74, said: “It could bring a few problems but there’s no point worrying about it.

“The seven-storey hotel looks rather overshadowing though, it is very high when houses around here are all two storeys.

“The multi storey car park isn’t too near me though, so there isn’t much to worry about there. It might stop people parking around here if the charges aren’t too high.”

Wendy Hunt, 60, who has lived nearby in Cronshaw Close for 28 years, said: “At the moment for anybody coming off the train into Didcot it is an eyesore.

“That derelict land is what people see as soon as they come into the town.”

Property company Savills has submitted draft plans to South Oxfordshire District Council and a formal planning application for at least part of the development is expected to be submitted next year.
