WHILE planting an airport in the middle of Oxfordshire was always a barmy idea, it was still a relief to see the mandarins overseeing such schemes were exhibiting common sense.

You wonder why anyone put any serious effort and expense into suggesting the site south of Marcham and north of the Hanneys – in many ways the proposal felt like the longest-running April Fool’s joke of the year.

We like Ed Vaizey’s verdict on the scheme when he said, imaging the potential name for a London Oxford airport: “LOX – more like LOL.”
