Herald Series: Doorstep district view Doorstep district view

Doorstep interviews will be carried out by South Oxfordshire District Council on what residents think of its services until the end of January.

The 20-minute interview, carried out by an independent market research company, will ask residents aged 16 and over to give feedback on council services.

Interviewers will carry photo ID displaying their name, the company’s logo and their photograph.

They will also be carrying a letter of authorisation from the council.

The interviewers will work between 9am and 9pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and between 10am and 9pm on Sundays.

Oh dear, another market research-led 'tick boxes' exercise! Instead, why don't South Oxfordshire Districts Councillors actually LISTEN to what people in their divisions tell them - and also save SODC and tax payers huge money being spent on yet more boring market research?

Er Myron that's what they're doing! Telepathic interviews are still not yet possible unfortunately.

I would however be happier if doorstep interviews were backed up with online ones, or else responses will be biased towards people who are at home during the day. THe sample should be representative of all council tax payers.

Its always a good idea to listen if your customers, and thats what we seem like, are satisfied or not and an online survey has to be the best way for those who have access to one.
The trink will be, and this is what Myron was saying, is when the survey results are listened to rather than ploughing blindly ahead with policies that are not welcome in the local community. Some of these are Govt led thats for certain but a local authority could always stand up and say no and represent `us the people' for once based on the fact they have a mandate.
