Two teams, well fed after Christmas Day, took part in a traditional charity match at Wallingford Town Football Club on Boxing Day.

The Dads and Conservatives match kicked off at 11am and was played in aid of Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation.

Entry was free, but competitors were invited to make a donation.

Club chairman Richard Prunier said: “A glorious sunny day, if a little chilly, greeted both players and supporters. The pitch and ground looked a picture.

“The game itself was not at all bad, although the dads middle shape at times was a little light.

“This was down to lack of positional experience and game time.”

The Wallingford Conservative Club team showed their experience and regular playing by controlling the game and scoring a couple of early goals.

The ‘Fat Dads’ came close to taking the lead a couple of times, but the final score was 7-3 to the Conservatives.

Mr Prunier added: “We were delighted to have the game played at The Hithercroft and hopefully should have raised much needed funds.”

He said the money was still being counted.

Wallingford Town FC is currently trying to forge stronger community links with the town.

On January 24 the club introduces disability football. For information about that or any of the club’s other activities contact walling fordtownfc@live.co.uk or call Mr Prunier on 07767 404670.
