BAD weather resulted in a 15 per cent drop in 999 and 101 calls to the police on New Year’s Day, according to Thames Valley Police.
There were 2,818 calls to the police on Wednesday compared to 3,300 in 2013 – a reduction of 482.
On New Year’s Eve, there were only 23 extra calls, compared to 2012 when 2,599 were made.
Chief Insp Jim Templer, deputy head of Thames Valley’s control room and enquiries department, said: “There was very little difference in the total call volume on New Year’s Eve compared to the volume of the previous year.
“There was a significant decrease in calls on New Year’s Day this year which may be as a result of the poor weather.
“I am pleased to report Thames Valley Police answered more than 95 per cent of its 101 calls within our target time of 40 seconds and more than 97 per cent of its 999 calls in 10 seconds.”
