LOCAL landscapes and coastal seascapes have been transformed in a series of vibrant oil paintings created using just a knife.

Artist Janine Philips, from Thame, is exhibiting the collection of specially-created works at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot.

The mum-of-two explained the paintings range from realistic representations, such as a recognisable depiction of Wittenham Clump, near Didcot, to abstract bands of colour.

Mrs Philips, 43, said: “I like to evoke a sense of place in my paintings. I will go into an environment and make a quick sketch, sometimes with oils, to get a spontaneous feel for the place, like the Impressionists did.”

The she paints on canvas.

The free exhibition runs until February 16.
