PUPILS are set to turn back the clock to the 1980s for a show at Didcot Girls’ School.

They will be performing the jukebox musical Back to the 80s, by Neil Gooding, featuring a host of hits from artists including Madonna, Michael Jackson and Cindy Lauper.

Set in an American high school in 1985, the show features a Rubik’s Cube set, neon costumes and a De Lorean car as made famous by the Back to the Future movies.

Some of the 65-strong cast is drawn from years seven to 13 at the town’s boy’s school, St Birinus, and the show is directed by the school’s head of drama Maria Robertson.

Cast member Mark Foy plays the hapless lovesick Corey Palmer Junior, who falls in love with the beautiful but unattainable Tiffany, queen of the cheerleaders, played by Corin Lawful.

Mark said: “It’s been great singing to songs my mum and dad used to play when I was growing up and I love the mullet haircut I get to wear.”

Girls’ school headteacher Rachael Warwick said: “A huge amount of effort is being put into the show and I know that we will be treated to a great night’s entertainment.”

The show runs from Wednesday to Saturday, February 12-15 starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 for adults and £5 for students and concessions and are available from the school on 01235 812092.
