BICESTER’S mayor Melanie Magee is urging people to take to their feet to raise cash for a charity.

Townspeople can sign up to a fun walk taking place on April 18, Good Friday, to raise cash for the mayor’s charity Medical Detection Dogs.

The walk comes after the town council organised a the successful Santa Fun Run in December.

Charity Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to assist people managing medical conditions, such as diabetes, and also to detect cancer through their sense of smell.

The walk route starts and finishes at Garth Park and circles the town taking in London Road, Neunkirchen Way, Charbridge Lane and Launton Road.

Mrs Magee said: “Lots of people wanted to take part in the Santa Fun Run but we were up to capacity so we thought this would be a great way to raise money.

“It's a great way to promote healthy living and exercise, while raising money for a fantastic cause that’s close to my heart.

“I'd love to see as many people come out as possible to join the event, particularly those who haven’t had the opportunity to do a sponsored walk previously.

“The event will be good fun with live music in the park and hot cross buns for all participants.”

Entry fee is £4 for adults and £2 for children. Call Julie Trinder on 01869 252915 email julie.trinder@bicester.gov.uk
