THE Environment Agency has warned more flood warnings and alerts are likely as further rain sweeps across the county over the next few days.

One flood warning remains in force for the River Thames and its tributaries at New Botley, New and North Hinksey and Grandpont in Oxford, meaning that the agency expects properties to flood in that area.

There are also 13 flood alerts still in force and the Met Office has issued an amber warning for rain from tomorrow afternoon , Friday and Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the agency said: “Lots of rain fell last night, with further rain forecast for the rest of the week it is likely that more flood alerts and warnings will be issued.

“We have demountable defences and pumps ready to be deployed should they be required for Oxford.

“Environment Agency teams are working around the clock to repair defences, clearing blockages, deploying demountable defences, and monitoring river levels to minimise the risk of flooding and keep communities safe.”

People can check their flood risk and get early warnings by calling the 24-hour Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or by following the Environment Agency on Twitter @EnvAgencySE.
