THE woman injured in this morning's crash in Abingdon has died.

Thames Valley Police has said the woman was seriously injured after her bike and a silver Ford Escort collided in Preston Road.

A spokesman has just confirmed the woman died at the John Radcliffe Hospital from her injuries.

He said she was 68-years-old and from the Abingdon area.

An air ambulance attended the scene and landed in the field of nearby Thameside School but the woman was taken to hospital by a conventional road ambulance.

Police officers say Preston Road is currently closed between Kensington Close and Cotman Close and is likely to remain so for several hours.

Updates will be posted automatically on the road closure on our Live Traffic Service.

Preston Road Is very dangerous especially where the road bends from Cotman Close onwards. Cars park on the corner forcing traffic to move to the other side of the road. There are parking bays but because of vandalism people want to park their cars outside their houses. The Highways authority could solve the problem by making the grass verges outside the houses into parking bays. I have had several near misses where cars go either up and down Present Road on the wrong side of the road forcing a head on collision. The chicanes do not help matters. Speed bumps would have been much better as cars would not be forced onto the wrong side of the road.

I live very near this morning's accident. I am a cyclist and regularly use Preston Rd. There is a lot of parked cars along this road, making visibility for cyclists and pedestrians poor. My thoughts go out to this lady's family. Also the driver of the car.

Have had friends in similar accidents on that road. Need to get those parked cars off the road and more effective ways to slow down traffic.

My thoughts go out to the lady's family, Get rid of the grass verges and make parking spaces instead that would help with the parking. I live further down from Cotman close and the large tanker lorries come thundering past my window every half hour some days and then brake hard to turn right. My walls are cracking and the roads are cracked everywhere. The chicanes are a waste of time people still race down the road from where they finish. There is another accident waiting to happen.
