Long waits at A&E

First published in News

Almost 300 people waited more than four hours in county A&E departments in the week up to last Sunday, figures show.

Of the 2,352 who attended Oxford’s John Radcliffe and Banbury’s Horton General hospitals, 284 waited more than four hours.

It means 87.9 per cent were admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours, below the target of 95 per cent.

A&E is at breaking point. Plenty of people there that really don't need to be there making longer waits for those that really do. Couple that with it being under resourced & waiting times will get longer & longer.

I think Drs that work in A&E or trauma do work weekends. I also think the staff are amazing coping with pressure & abuse daily. Think getting nearly 90 % admitted & either treated or discharged in 4 hours is pretty good.

Headline is misleading. They didn't wait 4 hours, they were in the department 4 hours including treatment.

I think its very easy to be critical. Everyone is quick to jump and scream when things dont go to plan....... But we hear very little about the times that these wonderful people do get things 100% right........... My mother who had a stroke in January, received the best possible care and attention from the A & E department and it was a Sunday..... She was sent in and was seen within ten mins, had MRI scan and was in a bed within an hour! I have nothing to say about the staff except... Thank you all very much for being their and for being so helpful. The doctor who did the MRI, took my mother in a wheelchair himself as there were no porters to take her to the MRI unit and stayed with her. .. Cant get much better than that.. I think you all do a fab job. Thanks again.
