A 31-year-old man consumed a lethal cocktail of drugs to take his own life, an inquest heard.

Richard Asbury was found dead in his bedroom at his home in Thames View, Abingdon, with tablets, whisky and water by him, on November 13 last year following a call to police by work colleagues who were worried about him.

The software architect, who worked for Abingdon company Schlumberger, left his last will and testament out in his house, but there was no note.

Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday that he had previously tried to take his own life at 16 and had a history of anxiety and depression.

A toxicology report found that he had taken a cocktail of non-controlled drugs including MDMA, MPA and ketamine.

The cause of death was multiple drug toxicity.

Friend and work colleague Rowan Haddad said in a statement: “In August 2013 Richard told me he took drugs in his spare time.

“He said nothing illegal. I think he was buying them from Silk Road (a black market internet sales room trading items including drugs, fake passports and illegal weapons).

Mr Haddad added: “He was very annoyed when it was shut down by the FBI a few weeks ago.”

Ms Haddad said she had received text messages the evening before Mr Asbury was found.

It said he was going for a long walk without his phone and he was not sure he would be back.

Assistant coroner for Oxfordshire Nicholas Graham recorded a verdict of suicide.
