PUPILS will take part in a 24-hour music marathon to raise money for instruments at Cholsey Primary School next month.
The four to 11-year-olds are pitching in with parents, teachers and musicians for the challenge from 2pm on Thursday, April 3, until 2pm on April 4.
Music teacher Emma Parr said: “As a school we are very proud of our musical tradition and the talents we nurture.
“More than 100 children already receive music lessons or perform in bands and choirs, and we would like even more to be able to take part in music activities within lesson time and as part of the school curriculum. Even simple classroom instruments are expensive to buy.”
The music marathon is hoped to raise £5,000 to buy extra instruments. It will feature the school’s recorder groups, choir, wind band and soloists, and will end in a musical assembly.
Older pupils will be sleeping over at the school during the challenge.
Parents, friends and the public are invited to help between 6.15pm and 10.30pm on April 3.
Mrs Parr added: “This is a first for Cholsey School and we are very grateful to everyone who is giving their time and money to support this event.”
