Tories retain seat

Herald Series: Oxfordshire County Council Oxfordshire County Council

Conservative candidate Stephen Harrod won the by-election for the Chalgrove and Watlington county council seat on Thursday.

Mr Harrod received 871 votes, with Liberal Democrat Susan Cooper second with 629 votes. UKIP candidate Gavin Craig got 311 votes, while Labour’s Paul Collins polled 159 and Green Colin Tudge 116. The seat had been held by Conservative Caroline Newton, who stood down earlier this year.

The Conservatives most certainly didn't deserve to win, in the light of the Council's outrageous decision to reward a Bullfinch witness with a holiday and thereby risk the inference of witness interference and an appeal to the Court of Appeal by one or more of the horrendous gang of perpetrators.
