County council awaits verdict on EU grants

OXFORDSHIRE is due to find out this month how much EU money it will get.
Following a High Court action by South Yorkshire and Merseyside, which claimed they were unfairly treated, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (DBIS) has had to reallocate funding from the European Structural and Investment Fund which is aimed at encouraging growth across the EU.
Oxfordshire was originally allocated 19m euros (£15.7m).
A spokesman for DBIS said: “We will go away and come back with new allocations this month. They could go up or down.
“The allocations are largely set by the European Commission because it is determined by the average GDP. If an area is richer than the EU average it will automatically get less.”
