BUS DRIVERS are set to strike over a pay dispute.

Unite drivers employed by Stagecoach announced they are preparing to strike on Friday, May 30 and Monday, June 2.

Members closed the ballot on May 2 after negotiations with company bosses faltered.

A member of the regional office in Twyford confirmed that two additional days, Friday and Monday, were originally planned, but have been cancelled while fresh pay offers are considered.

A spokesman for Unite, which has been handling negotiations, was asked for comment, but failed to respond.

Stagecoach spokeswoman Karen Coventry said: "A revised pay offer is being considered by all driving and engineering staff and Unite.

“In the meantime we can reassure our customers that there will be no strike action on Friday or Monday and all services will be operating.”

Unite members are also due to take part in protests in Oxford today over wages and zero hours contracts for staff emplyed in fast food restaurants.

A spokesman said the demonstration would take place outside McDonalds in Cornmarket Street, because it is the UK’s biggest fast food industry employer.

It will coincide with 19 others across the UK.

Amazing.

I'm really surprised that an Oxford franchisee of McDonald's is the UKs largest fast food employer.

Isn't NHS Professionals one of the largest employers of zero-hours contract staff in the UK? They have around 40,000 on their books.
