Swimmers at Didcot’s Barramundi swimming club helped raise £3,087 for one of their peers who has a rare allergy to food.
Nat Armstrong, 16, a City of Oxford Swimming Club member, has candidiasis, a form of yeast infection which has affected his organs and halted his career in the pool.
The treatment he needs is not currently available on the NHS and costs £1,700 a week.
Didcot Barramundi, along with Bourne End, Aylesbury and Thame swimming clubs, joined the Strongarm gala in April to raise money for Nat.
His grandfather, Bob Armstrong, said: “For my family, our lives shine because of all of our children, but that shine has been dulled because of Nat’s plight.
“Your response adds back some of that shine.
“Nat cannot believe the response that there is to his situation.”
