A footballing dad from Didcot tackled a host of celebrities at Fulham Football Club’s Craven Cottage andwon.

Fred Swanborough, 32, was part of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust XI who won by a narrow 6-5 margin.

The annual Nicky’s Whisper match between MPs and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust XI saw the CFT XI skipper Dalton Grant bag a superb hat-trick.

The match was set up in memory of the charity’s former patron Nicky West, who died from cystic fibrosis, and raises funds and awareness about the illness. Nearly 100,000 people across the UK have the genetic disorder, which causes breathing problems. Other players at the 10th anniversary match were Angus Deayton, DJ Spoony and Gavin Ramjaun.

Mr Swanborough’s six-year-old son Freddie was first diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was seven months old.
