THE two Oxfordshire councils with the best recycling rates in the country have extended their contract with Biffa until 2024.

Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils signed the deal for domestic waste collection this week. In the past six months residents reached an average recycling rate of 63.6 per cent in South, and 63.1 per cent in Vale.

That adds up to an average 1,400 tonnes of dry recycling a month in South and 1,300 in Vale.

Biffa business manager Simon Chown said the company would now look to introduce new waste collection vehicles and make more improvements to the service. He added: “We’re really pleased with the ongoing success we’ve had with the councils.”

He said potential improvements include a kerbside collection of small electrical goods and clothes.

South Oxfordshire cabinet member for recycling David Dodds said “I’m delighted that we are continuing our contract with Biffa.”
